Types of project have included overviews taking just a few days, small business research studies taking somewhat longer, and in-depth studies lasting up to three months. According to budget, required completion date and other client needs, some studies have been based mainly on personal interviews, many on telephone interviews, and others on telephone interviews supplemented by some personal interviews.

All studies initially make best possible use of information available from desk research, i.e. reviewing published information on the subject. Some studies have been focused on Europe or Western Europe and even on individual countries, but with increasing globalization of the chemical industry and development of world industries, demand has steadily increased for worldwide studies.
